Susan Beneville is an indie comic creator and screenwriter living in Oakland, California with her wife, journalist, memoirist and educator, Leslie Absher, and, yes, their three cats. Speaking of cats, you can check out Susan’ webcomic, Rodney’s Dreams, with art by Jules Rivera, over on Susan’s Substack. Feel free to subscribe to Susan’s probably monthly Substack newsletter, Swirling Words, where Susan will be posting musings about the trials and tribulations of an easily-distracted storyteller.

Susan’s current graphic novel, Nix, was co-created with artist Brian Hess and is about a feisty girl trapped in spirit form who must convince a self-doubting young prince to embrace his powers before her vengeful father destroys the kingdom they both love.

Her first all-ages graphic novel, Awake, also co-created with artist Brian Hess, is about a young girl and her brother who have the power to wake and help planets that are in trouble.

Susan previously published an all-ages adventure comic called The Atlantinauts about a team of ordinary kids who go in search of Atlantis. Susan and co-creator Brian Hess also had the privilege of contributing to Jeremy Whitley and Emily Martin’s Princeless: Girls Rock/Girls Leadership Anthology.

Currently, Susan has several irons in the fire.  In addition to working on Volume 2 of Nix, she is working on the script for a YA horror film called Did You Hear That?, a new fantasy/coming-of-age graphic novel, Sanya & The Blue, and an edgier mature-themed detective/adventure series called Highwater.

An unrepentant game-aholic, Susan spends much of her free time as a GM and player in role-playing games.  She is particularly fond of RPGs that emphasize collaborative storytelling like FATE, PbtAs, Cortext Prime, Numenera, Fiasco and Heart: The City Beneath.

When Susan isn’t writing, she still practices law every now and then, and teaches law as an adjunct lecturer at Santa Clara University Law School.
